Correct Acclimatisation of
your new corals is important to ensure they survive the stresses of transportation
from one tank to another. Acclimatisation is an important process as the water parameters
(temp, PH, salinity, etc.) in your tank will be different to those that the corals
were transported in and could cause harm or even death to your new additions.
There are a couple of methods
to correctly acclimatise your corals, but the floating method is more than sufficient.
FLOATING
METHOD:
- Switch
off your tank lights to prevent stress from sudden exposure to bright lights.
- Remove
the bag containing your new corals from the poly box and place in your tank/sump,
allowing it to float in your tanks water for approximately 15 minutes. This will
provide enough time to bring the water in the still sealed bags up to your tanks
water temperature.
- After
15 minutes, open the bag and roll up the top of the bag, allowing easy access.
(Handy tip: when rolling up the top of the bag, try and create an air pocket
as this will allow the bag to continue floating in your tank/sump). If the coral
pieces are to large for the bag to float, place the bag in a bowl.
- Next start
adding small amounts of your tank water to the bag.
- Repeat
this process every 5 minutes, until the bag is almost full.
- Discard half the bagged
water (not in tank) & repeat the above process.
You
corals are now ready to be placed in your tank.
